Erkoreka has called on the public service unions to negotiate in the General Roundtable to reach an agreement that allows the contributions to Itzarri-EPSV to be further expanded.

The Basque Government has approved today to resume, with effects from January 1, the contributions to Itzarri-EPSV, the pension plans of the nearly 90,000 public officials suspended since 2012, and prepare an agreement to raise the salary, set at 1 , 5% more in the Basque budgets this year.

From this same January, the whole of the Basque Public Administration, entities and public companies, will contribute 0.5% of staff costs to Itzarri-EPSV, as reported in a press conference after the Council of Government the spokesman of the autonomic Executive, Josu Erkoreka.

This decision will have a budgetary impact of almost 17 million euros (16,880,674 euros).

Erkoreka has called on the public service unions to negotiate in the General Roundtable to reach an agreement that allows the contributions to Itzarri-EPSV to be further expanded.

In this sense, the Basque Government considers that there is scope this year to increase the percentage of contribution to 1%, a possibility contemplated in the general budgets of Euskadi this year, as recalled the spokesman.

Salary increase in the first quarter

In addition Erkoreka has indicated that the Basque Executive is preparing an agreement to increase the salary of 70,000 public employees by 1.5%, as it is set in the Basque budgets this year.

The objective is that as soon as the agreement is reached, it is approved by a Governing Council, “independently” of what the central government can establish in this regard and that the increase is retroactive to January 1.

Sources of the Basque Executive have specified that it is foreseen that this increase can be given the green light in the first quarter of the year.

Erkoreka has indicated that the Basque Government now has the “full” legal and economic security to resume the contributions to Itzarri and that its objective is to recover the spirit of understanding that gave rise to this EPSV to achieve a pact with trade unions that allows even increase the percentage of contribution because there is “margin”.

The contributions to Itzarri-EPSV were suspended by the Government of Mariano Rajoy through Royal Decree-Law 20/2011, of December 30, of urgent measures in budgetary, tax and financial matters for the correction of the public deficit, which prohibited, expressly, make contributions to employment pension plans or collective insurance contracts.
